Life at Lamy’s: The Local Tap in Downtown Sedalia

Meet Paige and Leon Shearer, the dynamic duo behind Sedalia’s newly renamed craft beer haven, The Local Tap in Downtown Sedalia. From small-town beginnings to big dreams, we’re delighted to tell their story.

Paige and Leon hail from the quaint town of Cole Camp but found themselves drawn to Sedalia’s vibrant community. With two energetic boys, Cooper and Easton, in tow, they’ve integrated themselves into the fabric of the city, leaving their mark along the way.

Paige, a dedicated teacher at Skyline for over eight years, revels in shaping young minds and fostering a love for learning. Meanwhile, Leon cut his teeth at Craft Beer Cellar, immersing himself in the world of craft beer and becoming a certified Cicerone. The word Cicerone (sis-uh-rohn) designates hospitality professionals with proven experience in selecting, acquiring, and serving today’s wide range of beers. When the opportunity arose to take the reins and transform the Craft Beer Cellar establishment into their own, they didn’t hesitate to seize it.

Enter The Local Tap, a cozy sanctuary where locals gather, newcomers find solace, and craft beer flows like the conversation. But it’s not just about the brews. Expanding their offerings beyond beer, The Local Tap now boasts an eclectic selection of drinks, from Moscow Mules to local wines and bourbons, ensuring there’s something for everyone to sip and savor.

From renovating the building to selecting the perfect name—inspired by their kids’ Little League aspirations—Paige and Leon poured their hearts into every aspect of their venture. With unwavering support from friends, family, and loyal patrons, they’ve flourished, leaving behind the constraints of franchise life to embrace the joys of small business ownership.

The Local Tap isn’t just about drinks, though; it’s a hub of inclusivity, featuring local food trucks, partnering with charities like ChildSafe and Pawsabilities are Endless, and supporting Sedalia’s thriving arts and culture scene. And because they don’t have food service, you’re welcome to bring in your own bites, making it the perfect opportunity to sample the delectable offerings from No. 5 Bistro & Bar just around the corner. This is one of our favorite parts of their setup, but some say we may be biased.

Downtown Sedalia holds a special place in their hearts, with its bustling events, parades, and the comforting presence of fellow businesses like Ozark Coffee, which Paige and Leon frequent often. We don’t blame them. And when it’s time for a special night out, Lamy’s No. 5 Bistro & Bar never disappoints, with healthier dishes like Paige’s favorite salmon and Leon’s go-to French onion dip. The couple can’t wait to try out the new Italian menu and pick out new favorites.

In their downtime, Paige loses herself in the pages of beloved authors like Kristin Hannah and Sarah J. Maas, finding solace and escape in the world of literature. Because of that, Josey Records is a frequent stop for her.

As they continue to write their story, Paige and Leon remain steadfast in their commitment to making The Local Tap a pillar of fun, community, and good cheer in the heart of Sedalia.

So next time you find yourself thirsty in Downtown Sedalia, swing by The Local Tap, raise a glass to new beginnings and become part of the Shearer’s story—one sip at a time. Make sure you take your friends. After all, history loves company. Cheers! 🍻
